Professional photography copyright under spotlight
Copyright is to be debated in the House of Lords today and photographers are protesting about a new Bill that could be introduced.
The Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill 2012 – 2013 has proposals that worry many photographers as they feel it could threaten the copyright they have on their images.
One of the issues is the rights over orphan works which is where the copyright owner of a particular image is not known. The concern is that if these images are allowed to be used in an unlicensed way, then a big, cheap library of images would unfairly be competing with the photography of professionals with identified rights.
Here at InFocus Photographers Insurance, we’re always interested in the issues that affect the photographers we work with. We’ll be following the debate with interest. If you’d like to chat through any aspect of your photographer insurance policy or to get a quote, give us a call today.
